6th International Conference on Managing Pavements
19th - 24th October 2004
Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre,
Queensland, Australia
A paper entitled “The Importance of Quality Asset Data in
Delivering Real Benefits to Road Transportation” was presented
by Sub Group Road Data Moderator Les Hawker at the 6th International
Conference on Managing Pavements in Brisbane, Australia on
23rd October 2004. The paper concluded that:
“Quality data is the lifeblood of any organisation that
truly wishes to mange itself efficiently, effectively and economically,
and the Highways Agency is no different to anybody else in this
regard. Having recognised that there was a serious data business
issue in 2002, the adoption of a new approach based on the CEDR
document Data Management for Road Administrations: A Best Practice
Guide has permitted the Agency to streamline its data management
procedures and deliver real business benefits back to the Agency
and, more importantly, the road users.
This platform and approach is now being adopted in the broader
move to an integrated asset management business model, within the
context of the Agency’s revised role of Traffic Manager.”
