Data are amongst the most important assets that an organisation
holds. The CEDR organisation has produced Data Management
for Road Administrations – a
Best Practice Guide in order to provide guidance
and support for organizations seeking to manage their road data
in order to
gain best value from them.
The Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) (and its
predecessor, Western European Road Directors) has been promoting
collaboration and exchange of information and expertise amongst
it's members since it's inception in 1988. In particular, they
aim
to:
- Provide support to the activities of their directors and their
administrations
- Promote a high level of common information
- Give assistance to the European Commission in the preparation
of reports concerning the development of the Trans European Road
Network
The success of the objectives is largely dependent upon the availability
of consistent, high-quality information and data from within European
Road Administrations. CEDR aims to promote the availability of
a high standard of common information by harnessing the collective
expertise available in member organisations.
Data Management for Road Administrations – a Best Practice
Guide has been produced by Sub-Group Road Data on behalf of CEDR.
The guide promotes good practice and provides practical guidance,
in the form of “Seven Steps to Successful Data Management”.
By application of the guide Road Administrations can reap the
benefits of good Data Management and CEDR can be more effective
in reporting
on the European road network to the Commission.
The Best Practice Guide has been commended by CEDR to all local
and national road administrations, and to any other organisation,
that want to maximise benefit from their data.
