A paper entitled “The Importance of Quality Asset Data in Delivering Real Benefits to Road Transportation” was presented by Sub Group Road Data Moderator Les Hawker at the 6th International Conference on Managing Pavements in Brisbane, Australia on 23rd October 2004.

EuroRoadS - CEDR and Sub Group Road Data have been invited to act as a Reference Group on the recently started EuroRoadS, an EU-funded project on the harmonisation of road databases, which aims to open up public sector information for use by private sector organisations such as mapping agencies.


Best Practice in Data Management

Data Management for Road Administrations – A Best Practice Guide has now been published and distributed to members of Sub-Group Road Data at no cost. The Best Practice Guide encourages road administrations to get the best value from their road data by promoting good practice and providing practical guidance on effective data management. The final version is freely available to download from the Roaddata.org website and paper copies can be requested using the Contact Us form, indicating numbers required.

European Road Data Dictionary

The European Road Data Dictionary enables the exchange of data between road administrations by providing common definitions for various types of highway data, including common location referencing. The Data Dictionary is the result of extensive co-operative research by road administrations, and is being considered by CEN as a possible European Standard.

TERN Location Referencing North-South Pilot
A Working Group is currently piloting location referencing system for the Trans European Road Network on a route from Norway in the North to Greece in the South. The participating countries will be referencing their network on the route, and reporting on a number of Performance Indicators, selected in conjunction with the Performance Indicators working group.

TERN Performance Indicator Handbook
Sub Group TERN and Sub Group Road Data have set up a joint working group to produce a Manual for National Road Administrations on the production of performance indicators, containing data definitions and procedures for collection.
